What is "jihad" and are Muslims obligated to participate in it?

Jihad means in Qur'an to strive for spreading what is good and containing what is evil. It does not mean fighting with weapons. It is wrong interpretation by some Muslims that jihad means war. It does not as far as Qur'an is concerned.
